Amanda learned to be a baker in her home country, but worked in Vienna as a prostitute for almost seven years. She finally came to the end physically and emotionally and wanted out. After trying numerous times unsuccessfully to get a normal work permit, we were able to help her set up her own cleaning business and were able to provide her with the initial contacts that she needed to get started.

She has been out of prostitution now for almost 4 years and has her own little apartment and business. There have been immense struggles along the way. She was homeless after leaving prostitution and because we had no place to offer her, she initially stayed in a co-workers camper in their yard for a couple of weeks. From there the only affordable place we could find was a sub-standard apartment that a student wanted to rent out while he was away. There was no heating and only a public toilet in the hallway of the building. Two months later she was thrilled to finally get her own little place. It only had 215 square feet, the shower was in the kitchen, and once again it had no heating or toilet, but it was her first place! Believe it or not, she had to pay $450 a month for rent! It has taken her almost four years from the time she left prostitution to the present for her to stabilize and really get on her feet.
